Care & Safety
Last updated October 19, 2026
Good bedding is easy to live with once you know a few plain rules. This page brings together how to unpack, wash, dry and store every YORU product, and the safety points that matter most. The care label sewn into each product comes first: if it ever says something different from this page, follow the label.

Made for comfort, not a medical device
YORU pillows and bedding are made for comfort. They are not medical devices and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition. Comfort is personal, and no pillow suits everyone. If you have ongoing pain, numbness or a sleep problem, please see a doctor rather than relying on a pillow.
If your skin reacts to a fabric, stop using the product. If the reaction does not settle, see a doctor, and tell us.
Babies and safe sleep
Our pillows, comforters, pillowcases and the Body Pillow are not for babies. Never put them in a crib, bassinet, play yard or any other infant sleep space, and never use them to prop up or position a baby. Soft bedding can cover a baby's nose and mouth and cause suffocation.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) advise that babies sleep on their back, in their own sleep space, on a firm, flat surface covered only by a fitted sheet, with no pillows, comforters, blankets, bumpers or soft toys, for at least the first year. Do not let a baby sleep in an adult bed made with pillows and a comforter.
Read the full guidance from the CPSC and the AAP. For toddlers and young children, ask your pediatrician when a pillow or a comforter is right: our products are made for adults' beds.
Unpacking
Pillows and comforters arrive vacuum-compressed and rolled.
- Open the outer box on a clean bed, table or floor, and lift out the rolled product in its vacuum bag.
- Cut the vacuum bag with scissors along an edge or a corner, holding the plastic away from the product and pointing the blades away from the fabric. Never push a knife or a box cutter into the bag: the fabric is right under the plastic.
- Unroll the product, take off all the plastic, and throw the packaging away out of reach of children and pets.
- Fluff pillows from the sides, and shake comforters out from the corners a few times.
- Give each pillow or comforter 24 to 48 hours to regain its shape and loft. A warm, airy room helps.
Decide whether you want to keep it before the first night: once a product has been slept on, it can no longer be returned for a change of mind. See our returns policy. Please unpack pillows and comforters within a few weeks of delivery, as they are not meant to stay compressed for long.
The first smell of memory foam
The Contour Pillow's foam core and the Flex Pillow's shredded foam can have a light smell when they are first unpacked. This is common with foam that has been sealed in its packaging, and it fades as the foam airs out. Take the cover off the Contour Pillow, and let the pillow air in a well-ventilated room for a day or two, out of direct sun. If a strong smell has not faded after a week of airing, write to us.
Washing and drying
For everything that can be washed: wash cold on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent; no bleach, no dry cleaning and no high heat; close zippers before washing. Make sure everything is completely dry, inside too, before you use it again or put it away: fill that stays damp can turn musty and develop mildew.
Covers and pillowcases
- The Contour Pillow's cover, the Flex Pillow's outer cover, the Body Pillow's cover, the Contour Pillowcase and the Cool-Touch Pillowcases: machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, with like colors, then tumble dry low.
- No bleach and no iron. Skip fabric softener on the pillowcases: it dulls their smooth, cool feel.
Memory foam
- Never machine wash or tumble dry the Contour Pillow's foam core, or the Flex Pillow's shredded foam and inner liner. Water and dryer heat damage foam.
- To freshen the foam, air it out. Spot clean a mark with a cloth dampened with water and a little mild soap, then let it dry completely, away from heat and direct sun, before you put the cover back on.
The Body Pillow
- Unzip the cover and wash it as above. Spot clean the inner pillow with a damp cloth: it does not go in the machine.
The Hotel, Puff and Pleat Pillows
- The whole pillow goes in the washing machine: cold, gentle cycle, mild detergent. Washing two pillows together keeps the machine balanced.
- Tumble dry low with two dryer balls, then fluff. The Hotel and Pleat Pillows can also air dry.
- No bleach, no dry cleaning, no iron.
- A pillow takes longer to dry than you might think: check that the middle is completely dry before you sleep on it.
The Cloud and Cool Comforters
- Wash a comforter alone, in a large front-loading machine, cold, on a gentle cycle. A machine that is too small, or a top-loader with a center agitator, can strain the stitching: the large machines at a laundromat are a good choice.
- Tumble dry low with dryer balls, and take it out to shake it a few times so the fill dries evenly. The Cloud Comforter can also dry flat in the shade.
- No bleach, no dry cleaning, no high heat.
- The Cloud Comforter's knit shell can snag: keep it away from hook-and-loop fasteners and jewelry.
Storing
- Store bedding clean and completely dry, in a breathable fabric bag, in a cool, dry place out of direct sun.
- Do not keep a pillow or a comforter sealed in plastic for months: trapped moisture can turn it musty.
- Keep the Flex Pillow's bag of extra foam closed and out of reach of children and pets.
Plastic packaging and small pieces
- Vacuum bags and plastic wrapping are a suffocation hazard. Keep them away from babies and children, never let a child play with them, and tie a knot in them before you throw them away, as soon as you have unpacked.
- Shredded foam and loose fill are a choking hazard for young children and pets. Keep the Flex Pillow's zipper and its bag of extra foam closed and out of reach. If a cover tears, put the product away from children and pets until it is replaced.
Heat, flames and electric blankets
- Pillows and comforters can burn. Keep them away from candles, open flames, fireplaces, space heaters, radiators, halogen lamps and other heat sources. Never smoke in bed.
- If you use an electric blanket, a heated mattress pad or a heating pad, follow its maker's instructions, including what may be placed over it. Do not leave one switched on under a pillow or a bunched-up comforter unless those instructions allow it.
- Do not iron our products, and keep foam away from the dryer and from direct heat.
Seams, zippers and wear
- Check seams, zippers and covers from time to time, and after each wash.
- If a seam opens, a zipper breaks or the fabric tears, stop using the product, keep the fill away from children and pets, and write to us. Within 90 days of delivery, this is covered by our limited warranty.
- Pillows soften and settle with use. Fluffing them every day or two helps them keep their shape.
Reporting a safety concern
If you think one of our products is unsafe, or something happened with it, stop using it and keep it. In an emergency, call 911.
Then email us at nzb1383@gmail.com with "Safety" in the subject line: the product and its size, your order number if you have it, what happened and, if you can, photos. We answer within 2 business days, and faster when we can. We keep a record of every report and, when the law requires it, report to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
You can also report a product safety incident directly to the CPSC at SaferProducts.gov. How we handle the information in a report is explained in our Privacy Policy.
California Proposition 65
California's Proposition 65 requires a warning for products that can expose you to substances the State of California lists as causing cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. If a warning is ever required for one of our products, it will appear on its product page, before you buy, and on the product or its packaging.
Recalls and safety notices
If we ever need to recall a product or share a safety notice, we will email everyone who bought it, using the email address given with the order. We will also publish a notice on this page and on the product page, explaining clearly what to do and how we will put it right, at no cost to you.
